TARDIS

Three things from Doctor Who, drawn as the machines they are. Open them, press them, read the numbers in the corner.

The TARDIS

POLICE PUBLIC CALL BOX
Drag to open the doors · Space to dematerialisedoors closed · 1.4 m across
A 1960s police box on the pavement. Open its doors and the room inside is a console room 12 m across, drawn at a third of the box's scale, which is the only way to fit it through a 1.4 m door. Press Space and the lamp pulses while the box fades from the paving, leaves for the Vortex, and comes back.

The Doctor's ship: a time machine that is bigger on the inside, stuck in the shape of a 1960s London police box since its chameleon circuit broke. It travels anywhere in time and space, usually not where it was asked to go, and it is alive.

It's bigger on the inside!

The sonic screwdriver

Space to press the button · arrows slide the carriageaimed at the lock · off
The screwdriver in its cradles on a bench, aimed at a carriage on rails. Press the button and the emitter sounds: in the lock in front of it, cut in half to show its works, the five pin stacks rise until each key pin meets the shear line, and the plug turns. Slide the carriage to put the block of wood in front and the same sound does nothing, because it doesn't do wood.

The Doctor's all-purpose tool. It opens locks, scans, mends and breaks small machines with sound, and it is not a weapon. It does not do wood.

I'm sorry. It doesn't do wood.

A Dalek

Drag up to lift the casing · Space to speaksealed · one Kaled inside
Not a robot. Lift the dome and shoulders off the skirt and there is a creature in a bowl of life support: the Kaled, with one eye and tentacles, driving the machine. Press Space and the two dome lights flash with each syllable of the one word it is known for.

Not a robot: a mutant from the planet Skaro, riding in an armoured travel machine with an eyestalk, a gunstick and a plunger. Daleks hate everything that is not a Dalek, and they say so.

Exterminate!
